Jesus' last earthly words set the standard for us: Make disciples, baptize them and teach them to obey everything he commanded. (Matthew 28:19-20a, NRSV)
Generations of followers of Christ have learned that disciple-making is not a one-time event. A major task of any church is to fulfill Jesus' entire commandment—the initial decision, the introduction of a new believer into the community of faith, and then enabling/empowering that believer to live as Jesus lived.
ABHMS understands Christian education as a part of that overarching vision of disciple-making. The resources on this Web site will support the work you do in bringing your church to an understanding of discipleship as the model for all we do, whether inside the church building or being the church in the world.
The 2014 Discipleship Planning Guide (PDF) for American Baptist churches provides many resources for your church's disciple-making ministries. You will find articles, suggested activities, devotional materials and a planning calendar for the year. We hope it helps you in your ministry.
ABHMS conference affirms, inspires women in ministry
Women in ministry from all corners of the United States prayed, laughed, praised, cried and sang together at American Baptist Home Mission Societies-sponsored "Women Together: Lifting and Serving One Another"—a conference at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, Detroit, in August 2010.
